Empowered Educational Advocacy

20yrs Teaching Experience | M.Ed. in Elementary Education | ELA Curriculum Coordinator | Reading & Writing Specialist and Dyslexia Therapist

Holistic healing looks at the whole person—mind, body, emotions, and energy. Educational struggles don’t just show up as poor grades; they often manifest as anxiety, self-doubt, sleep issues, emotional dysregulation, and even physical symptoms in both students and their caregivers.

Laura Piccolo has been advocating for students and families since 2011, guiding them through the complexities of special education with clarity, compassion, and a whole-person approach. She’s successfully secured over $250,000 in services for students through due process and knows firsthand the toll educational struggles can take; not just academically, but emotionally, mentally, and energetically. That’s why Laura combines her expertise in education with her passion for holistic healing to support families in a way that honors both the practical and the personal.

Her goal is to empower you: ensuring you fully understand your child’s current and past evaluations, IEPs, and 504 Plans. She carefully reviews all documents to confirm they’re accurate, comprehensive, and clearly address your concerns with measurable goals and meaningful accommodations. Before you send an email or attend a meeting, Laura makes sure you feel fully informed and confident. Whether you need behind-the-scenes support or someone by your side throughout the process, you decide her level of involvement. Laura brings the expertise, support, and endurance needed to advocate not just for short-term wins, but for long-term success.

Why Work With an Advocate?

Schools are often under-resourced and overwhelmed.

As a parent, you shouldn’t have to navigate complex special education systems alone.

An advocate helps you:

  • Decode the paperwork
  • Spot red flags or gaps
  • Prepare for upcoming IEP/504 meetings
  • Clarify your child’s legal rights and school’s responsibilities
  • Align your child’s support plan with who they truly are

504/IEP File Review

Laura offers thorough IEP and 504 File Reviews to help families better understand their child’s educational plan and step confidently moving forward. Whether your child has an official diagnosis, or you're simply unsure if their current supports are enough, this service is designed to illuminate what's working, what's missing, and what’s possible.

IDEAL FOR FAMILIES WHO:

  • Feel overwhelmed by special ed paperwork
  • Wonder if their child’s plan is strong enough
  • Suspect services might be missing or insufficient
  • Are heading into a reevaluation or transition year

Ongoing Advocacy Support

After completing the initial File Review, many families choose to continue receiving support and representation throughout the school year. As your child’s advocate, Laura can attend meetings, assist in crafting effective communication with the school, and help ensure that your child’s rights, needs, and strengths remain centered in every conversation.

Continuing services may include:

  • IEP/504 meeting attendance (in person or via Zoom) and follow up notes
  • Review and feedback on proposed IEP/504 plans, evaluations, and school emails
  • Strategy sessions to prepare for team meetings or difficult conversations
  • Written summaries, drafts of parent concerns, and goal suggestions

You decide the level of support. Whether you need behind-the-scenes guidance or active meeting participation, Laura offers flexible, responsive services tailored to your family’s needs.

I’m here to help you navigate the system with confidence. As your advocate, your guide, and your witness, my goal is for your student to receive the services and recognition they deserve. - Laura Piccolo

If you're ready for long-term support, we can discuss your goals and build a plan that feels sustainable and effective for your family. Let’s keep the momentum going. Your child deserves nothing less.
